Dr. Thibaudeau, Director of the Electron Microscope Center since 2005 continues her involvement in research, undergraduate education and outreach. Dr. Thibaudeau (Munn) received her BS in Biology from Daemen College, Buffalo NY, her MS in Zoology from MSU, and her PhD in Cell/Developmental Biology from University of Kansas. She joined the faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences at MSU in 1994 after a three-year postdoc at Princeton University. Dr. Thibaudeau’s research interests focus primarily on cell migration/differentiation and mechanisms involved in cellular decision-making during embryonic development. The embryonic neural crest, and in particular the pigment cell lineage of the crest, of amphibians and fish have been used as model systems in these studies. Thibaudeau has been active in undergraduate research activities and outreach to K-12. Research interests and collaborations have expanded to include areas of Biological Inspiration – the engineering of biological structure and/or biological process design.

Amanda Lawrence graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Greensboro College (Greensboro, North Carolina) and has had more than 30 years experience in the areas of pathology and microscopy. Areas of expertise include paraffin histology, light microscopy (LM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Amanda has been a Research Associate at Mississippi State University for 20 years and full-time with the EMC since 2004. In addition to her contributions to the EMC, Amanda maintains an Insect Disease Diagnostic Service available for those who rear insects for commercial or research purposes (see www.msstate.edu/Entomology/resources/Rearingwksp
.html for more information regarding this particular service). Amanda is active in both national and regional microscopy societies serving on the executive council for the Southeastern Microscopy Society (SEMS) and volunteer co-coordinator for the Microscopy Society of America (MSA).
