Who we are

Established in 1972, Mississippi State University’s Electron Microscopy Center (EMC) is a university wide support center that serves all three missions of the university, research, education, and service. The center is administratively under the Office of Research and is available on a fee basis to faculty, staff, and students at Mississippi State University and to off-campus users. In addition to transmission and scanning electron microscopy instrumentation, the EMC now houses state-of-the-art instrumentation for live-cell confocal microscopy and X-ray diffraction.  The EMC combines the depth, expertise and personal attention of a small research facility with the breadth, flexibility and resources of a larger full service facility. Each of the EMC’s staff is dedicated to the highest level of service and competence within his or her specific field of expertise. All users of the EMC, from individual faculty/staff/student, to interdisciplinary research groups, to industry deserve and receive well thought-out advice, excellent sample preparation, access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, attention to details, timely results, and commitment to project completion.
